INSTRUMENT ASSEMBLY TECHNICIAN (MEDICAL DEVICES) | DETAILS AND COMPENSATION:

  • Location: Sparks Glencoe MD 21152 – 100% On-site
  • Payrate: $23/hr
  • Required Availability: Full-Time | Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM + mandatory OT

INSTRUMENT ASSEMBLY TECHNICIAN (MEDICAL DEVICES) | SUMMARY AND HIGHLIGHTS:

The Instrument Assembly Technician (Medical Devices) performs complex production assembly operations on electronic and mechanical instruments and subassemblies in a regulated manufacturing environment. This role supports multiple product lines and requires strong technical expertise in assembly, troubleshooting, testing, and rework. The technician also plays a key role in quality, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • This position is a contract assignment with potential to hire on permanently based upon attendance, performance, and business needs

INSTRUMENT ASSEMBLY TECHNICIAN (MEDICAL DEVICES) | RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build, integrate, and understand the full assembly process for instruments in the production area
  • Assemble and integrate sub-assemblies into finished instruments across multiple product lines
  • Perform wiring, component installation, hand soldering, cable harnessing, and mechanical fitting
  • Conduct basic component and module testing; analyze results to determine pass/fail outcomes
  • Troubleshoot, repair, rework, modify, and reassemble instruments and prototype assemblies
  • Perform setups and adjustments while maintaining blueprint and tolerance specifications
  • Maintain accurate device history records (serial numbers, tools, documentation)
  • Identify defects and recommend design or process improvements
  • Read and interpret drawings, diagrams, work instructions, and workmanship standards
  • Train and mentor associates on mechanical assembly and basic testing activities
  • Perform routine to moderately complex troubleshooting on production issues
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Planning, and Purchasing teams
  • Perform standard material handling for raw materials and sub-assemblies
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), safety, quality, and housekeeping procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

INSTRUMENT ASSEMBLY TECHNICIAN (MEDICAL DEVICES) | REQUIREMENTS :

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED (verifiable) required | Associate’s (AA) degree in a technical field with relevant technical experience preferred
  • Attendance: Commitment to mandatory attendance during the first 90 days.
  • 2.5+ years of experience in manufacturing in lieu of Associates degree
  • Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment is required

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Proven leadership ability with experience mentoring or coaching associates
  • Strong accountability for results and process improvement across teams or work cells
  • Demonstrated commitment to Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Experience participating in Kaizen events, Blitzes, safety initiatives, and CI projects
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical tools (torque drivers, gauges, bits, etc.)
  • High proficiency in reading and interpreting drawings and measuring specifications
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple production orders
  • Ability to adapt to frequent assignment and priority changes
  • Team-oriented mindset with strong collaboration skills
  • Ability to work within established quality systems and procedures

Technical & Working Skills

  • Proficient in English (reading, writing, and comprehension)
  • Ability to analyze charts, follow diagrams, and perform basic arithmetic
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Windows-based systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Ability to work in a repetitive production environment
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
