Outova is seeking an Assistant Controller to play a key role in strengthening our accounting operations and financial reporting. This position offers hands-on ownership, cross-functional collaboration, and the opportunity to help scale processes within a growing, dynamic organization.

Position Overview:

The Assistant Controller plays a key role in supporting the financial health of the company by managing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP, supporting financial reporting, and assisting with the development and enforcement of internal controls. This role is essential in maintaining accurate financial records across multiple business entities and ensuring timely reporting to leadership .

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management and Reporting:

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Perform variance analysis and assist in the preparation of financial reports for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Help consolidate financial data across multiple subsidiaries or business units.

General Ledger Management

  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, fixed assets, and payroll entries.
  • Ensure accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and support balance sheet reconciliations.

Compliance & Controls

  • Support the implementation and monitoring of internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in audits (internal, external, and tax) by preparing necessary documentation and coordinating with auditors.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Collaborate in the budgeting and forecasting processes by compiling data and providing financial insights.
  • Track actuals vs. budget and provide analysis on key variances.

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities in accounting workflows.
  • Support ERP or accounting system updates and enhancements.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff and help with training and development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments including Operations, HR, and Sales to ensure alignment on financial impacts and accuracy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA  preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience; public accounting or multi-entity industry experience a plus.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage, etc.).
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
